Preparing for the German University Entrance Qualification

Some Indian 10+2+3 degrees need a Feststellungsprüfung. Who needs it, what the Studienkolleg involves and how to prepare.

What Is the Studienkolleg?

A preparatory college that bridges Indian secondary education and German university admission requirements. Typically needed when your qualification doesn't directly equate to the German Hochschulreife.

Do Indians Need It?

Most Indian graduates with a 3-year Bachelor's applying for a Master's: typically do NOT need it. Indian students applying for a German Bachelor's with only 10+2: very likely need Studienkolleg. Check the DAAD database and anabin for your qualification.

The Feststellungsprüfung

Complete 1–2 semesters at a state Studienkolleg (free tuition) and sit the assessment exam. Course tracks: T-Kurs (STEM), W-Kurs (economics), M-Kurs (medicine).

Preparation

Learn German to B1 before arriving — courses are in German. Maths at German Abitur level required for T-Kurs. Apply for DAAD scholarship for financial support during Studienkolleg.
