EU Blue Card Germany: Eligibility & Benefits for Indians

The Blue Card is the fastest route to German PR — 21 months with B1 German. Full eligibility rules and application process.

What Is the EU Blue Card?

The EU Blue Card is a work and residence permit for highly qualified non-EU nationals. For Indians, it's the most direct path to German permanent residency — significantly faster than the standard work permit.

Eligibility Requirements

You need a recognised university degree (check anabin.kmk.org) and a job offer meeting the minimum salary threshold — approximately €45,300 gross/year in 2025 for most professions, or €41,041 for shortage occupations (IT, engineering, medicine).

PR Timeline

With German B1: PR eligibility after 21 months. Without B1: 27 months. That 6-month difference is why starting German from day 1 matters. Track your dates with our PR timeline calculator.

Application Process

Apply at the Ausländerbehörde after arriving. Documents: passport, job contract, degree certificate (apostilled and translated), health insurance proof, passport photos, ~€100 fee.

Family Benefits

Your spouse can work immediately with no restrictions. Children get free public schooling. Your whole family is on one Familienversicherung health insurance policy at no extra premium.
