Privacy Policy (Datenschutzerklärung)

1. Who we are

Desi European Tales (desieuropeantales.com) is a free information and tools website for South Asians navigating life in Europe. It is a personal project, not a company.

2. What data we collect

We collect almost nothing. Specifically:

No registration, no account, no email required to use any tool on this site.
Calculator inputs and results are computed entirely in your browser and never sent to any server.
Checklist progress, profile data (visa type, salary, city) are stored only in your browser's localStorage — they never leave your device.
Newsletter subscription: If you choose to subscribe, your email is handled by Buttondown (a GDPR-compliant email provider). We receive only your email address and send only relevant updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.

3. Server logs

Our hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) may log standard server access data (IP address, page requested, timestamp, browser type) for security and operational purposes. These logs are retained per Cloudflare's own privacy policy and are not accessible to us in identifiable form. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

4. Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics (GA4) with the tag G-NYWE7FN58G to understand which pages are most useful. GA4 is configured without advertising features. For full details, see Google's Privacy Policy. If you prefer not to be tracked, use a browser extension like uBlock Origin.

5. Cookies

We do not set any first-party cookies. Third-party services (Cloudflare, Google Analytics) may set cookies per their own policies.

6. External links and embeds

This site links to external services including WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, YouTube, and World Monitor. When you click those links, the respective third party's privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for their content or data practices.

7. Google Drive images

The site logo is currently served via Google's CDN (lh3.googleusercontent.com). Loading this image causes your browser to contact Google's servers. We are in the process of migrating to self-hosted images.

8. Children

This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from minors.

9. Your rights (GDPR)

Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or port any personal data we hold about you. Since we hold almost none, the most practical action is to clear your browser's localStorage (Settings → Privacy → Clear site data for desieuropeantales.com). For newsletter data, use the unsubscribe link in any email or contact us directly.

We may update this policy occasionally. The date at the top of this page reflects the last revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
